Modafinil and alcohol: a testimonial
There are evenings when, after a day of hard work, I just want to go home to relax with a beer in my hand and watch a repeat of my favorite show. Do not get me wrong, there’s a big difference between drinking to get drunk and drinking a beer or two.
Normally, I would not think too much about it, but since I’m doing a course on nootropics, I wanted to know if there are any unwanted effects when combining alcohol with nootropics like modafinil. I’d like to add that I’m making it a little quieter because I’ve noticed that after I’m 30 years old, I can not tolerate alcohol so well that I drink a lot less now.
Now you may be wondering why I do that. Well, because it is quite difficult to find complete answers to the questions about the exact effects of alcohol in combination with Modafinil, I thought that I could find the answer during some experiments before I started drinking less alcohol, and so I did Exact overview could give about what would happen.
Consider me a drunken scientist!
Modafinil test phase | Modafinil, alcohol
Test 1: Modafinil and drinking the next day
First of all, I took my normal Moda dose on a Thursday and skipped it on Friday, so there was a day between Moda and alcohol.
As far as I can tell you, this situation did not cause me any problems. It was a normal evening with my friends and everything went as I wished. I felt the kick, laughed louder than usual and convinced myself that I’m a good dancer.
In short, the usual. There were no unwanted effects and I pretty much shot when I drank my fourth drink. Or was it the fifth? The regular drowsiness and inability to talk for more than two words overwhelmed me.
We had a nominated driver in our party tonight who brought us all home. The next day, I woke up with a mild headache and Friday night syndrome. Nothing but normal.
Test 2: Modafinil and drink the same day
This resulted in a much more interesting result. I took Modafinil on Friday morning (a small dose) and went out with my friends that night. I found it very difficult to get drunk. I usually take three whiskeys & cokes, but even after about five drinks there was no blurry language and I could think clearly. My body was drunk, but my brain was not.
I thought I could talk clearly about different topics. But over time, I started to find it a bit boring. Even now, all of my important engine functions were working fine, so I could stand on one leg or walk on a straight line, for example. However, things that require more sophisticated control have become more difficult for me. I would like to add that my dancing skills have not improved in any way.
There was a clear difference between the last test and the current one. I had to work hard to get drunk and feel drunk. So I thought that this would be a great way to stay in during long drinking sessions, pub crawls or boat parties.
I came home by taxi, lay down on my bed and fell into a deep sleep. I got a headache when I got up, but I think it had more to do with the amount of alcohol I used last night that the nootropics in general.
Test 3: Modafinil and drink within six hours.
Well, I tried that and it was not pleasant. If you want to give it a try, do it when you are in your company and not at your local pub when you are alone.
In the afternoon I took a pill, knowing that I would go out that evening. My friend gave a party and only about twenty people would come. The perfect opportunity to test nootropics in combination with alcohol. At the time, I did not know that my words would prove prophetic.
I arrived around 9:00 pm and made myself comfortable. I felt good because Modafinil always kept me sharp. I thought, “This remedy makes conversation easy. When I took a drink, I still felt pretty good. I just did not get the kick as easily as I was used to. Somehow, the remedy made sure the alcohol did not affect my brain. But after the third drink, it went downhill.
I had to go to the bathroom … .. and what I still vaguely remember is that my friends carried me to the couch. People often fall drunk at parties, but the strange thing was that I was not drunk at all. What I experienced was a blackout. And that still scares me today.
Black-outs are one way to turn off all systems because something went horribly wrong. In a few cases, it can even be deadly. Fortunately, the next morning I was able to return to normal after a good night’s sleep. Of course, I do not recommend that to anyone.
Test 4: Modafinil and immediate drinking
Because I had a pretty bad experience using Modafinil and drinking within six hours, I did not want to take that risk again in any way. Needless to say, you should not do that either.
I’ve heard and read how people do it without any consequences, but most of them usually say “no, do not do it.” People, like me, got blackouts and the worst cases ended up in a hospital.
I would not recommend that to anyone. Everyone has different biorhythms so that what is good for a few people certainly does not have to be good for us all. What I can tell you is that it’s better to take the guesswork out of the dark. Especially when it has to do with the brain.
Well, after my simple self-experiment, you now have a clearer picture of what you can do with modafinil and alcohol (not doing). There is no reason for you to stop drinking if you use Modafinil properly. The only thing you have to do is to be careful and not to take Modafinil too late when you go out one evening.
Ideally, you should take Modafinil in the morning so that drinking alcohol in the evening or at night is not a problem. Follow these tips and then you should be fine!
